Are You An Edge Head?

Cardinals GM  John Mozeliak checked in from Houston to discuss the team’s recent downturn and what needs to be done.

Here is the interview.

After Blues ruffian Cam Janssen signed his new deal, he talked to us. Here is the interview.

We had a chance to chat with former football Cardinals lineman Conrad Dobler about Don Coryell. Here is the interview.

For those seeking a little entertainment, I have a couple quick movies I wanted to recommend.  Whether you like On Demand, Netflix, or Blockbuster – there is no point wasting your time with a bad movie.  Here are a couple of recommendations for movies to check out on DVD.

The first is “Hot Tub Time Machine.”  I know – terrible name.  While it is not as good or crazy as “The Hangover,” it is a very original idea and incredibly funny.  The movie stars John Cusack and “The Daily Show’s” Rob Corddry and is about exactly what you would think it would be – through a series of ridiculous mishaps, four friends go back in time via time machine.

The jokes are outlandish, the material is definitely for adults only, and if you don’t mind the ridiculous way they go back to the 80′s and just have fun with it – that is exactly what you will have – fun.  Cusack is very funny and it is wild to see him back in the 80′s – a generation in which he starred in several great teen movies.  Corddry is outlandish as the wild loser of the bunch and “The Office’s” Craig Robinson is wonderful in his first real starring vehicle.  Movie fans will also like Chevy Chase, who plays a handy man who pops up throughout the movie to fix the hot tub.  While its no “Fletch” it is nice to see Chase in something funny for a change.

For those that want “The Hangover” you will be very disappointed – because this movie is not as good – but if there is a runner up category “Hot Tub Time Machine” is a good second fiddle.

The second movie to check out is “Taking Chance.”    This movie is the complete opposite of “Hot Tub Time Machine” and one of the most moving movies I have ever watched. “Taking Chance” was a made for HBO film that won acclaim at multiple film festivals and won Kevin Bacon a Golden Globe Award.

The film stars Bacon as a Marine Colonel who feels like he has not been of value to the country during the conflict in Iraq.  After searching the casualty list, he sees the name of a young private from his home town who had been killed in action.  He volunteers to take the solider home to his family to be buried.

Based on true events, Bacon is marvelous as Michael Strobel, playing a decorated solider and family man who travels across the country with the young fallen Marine.  He did not know the solider (Chance) but comes to know everything that he is about – and what he himself is about.

It does not make political statements.  It does not impose opinion on the war or anything of that nature.  It does show that no mater what your background or political belief – everyone supports the men and women of the military and the respect we all share for those that have fallen.

Watch this one with a kleenex, you’ll need it.

Former Blues coach Joel Quenneville visited with us Tuesday and talked about the thrill of winning the Stanley Cup in Chicago.

You are probably not a Blackhawks fan, but you will probably like hearing from him.

Here are some of the stories we’ll be talking about on the Sports Edge today:

Will the Cardinals rent Cliff Lee? That’s a long shot, but you never know. Long-term, though, Lee looks like a natural for the Yankees.

The Cards have some issues, true, but bench play isn’t one of them.

Tony La Russa has some thoughts on immigration. McKenna wants to talk about this.

Gotta love crazy sports parents.

Any Rams fans begging for Michael Vick now? This could threaten his NFL career.

Would you take injury-prone Sheldon Souray for Eric Brewer? Probably so. And what about these rekindled Ilya Kovalchuk rumors?

This will drive Blues fans crazy.

Here some things we’ll probably talk about today:

The Cardinals win Monday so much as the Diamondbacks handed them a much-needed victory. More visitors should have such manners.

Cedric Benson in trouble again? Hard to believe!

Vernetti can’t understand how NFL quarterback Mark Brunell went broke. This explains the situation.

NHL trade talks are heating up. And, yes, the Blues are mentioned in some of them.

Speaking of the Blues, independent experts liked what they did at the draft weekend.

Maybe Stephen Strasburg is just human after all.

Erin Andrews is staying at ESPN. Now we have a reason to keep cable TV.

Jon Stewart offers soothing words for the U.S. soccer team.

The only way to settle differences honorably:  Bat fight!

BAT FIGHT with Will Ferrell from Will Ferrell

Documentary-maker Ken Burns waxed eloquently about our national pastime during his phone visit Monday. You cannot convince him that pro football is really No. 1 in this country.

He has added a new chapter to his baseball epic, covering the steroid era — including, yes, Cardinals hitting coach Mark McGwire.

If you missed this discussion, do check it out.

As we discovered while visiting with him over the phone on Monday.

Gordo had this take on the Blues’ draft, including the selection of Schwartz with the first pick.

Independent experts like what the Blues did, too.

If you haven’t seen him play, here is a taste.
